Monday I was on leave from work but went out shopping most of the day instead of spending it in the kitchen. I got home about an hour before iftar so there wasn’t much time to make anything fancy. There were some braised sausages leftover so I sliced them up and used it as a filling the hotdog I’d bought earlier that day. Topped this with cheese and a sausage sub was born. This was baked until the roll crisped up and bit and the cheese melted. It was served with a side of coleslaw.
Tuesday was back to work for me, but my mom’s on leave so I get a break from the kitchen and I get to enjoy her fabulous cooking. Last night for iftar, we had soup, mini pizzas and a fruit plate. In addition to this, my mom cooked delicious mince curry and roti so I had a scrumptious salomie after eshai salaah. I made a raita to accompany the salomie.
No idea what she’s got up her sleeve for tonight’s iftar, but I’m excited. What are you iftar plans for tonight? Tell me in the comments section below.
Had leftover lasagne last night – husband away till sat so i’m cooking light. Will make burgers tonight and my mom already called me to come pick up bollas on my way home as I am only getting home at 5.45 – so very little time to make anything! Then the neighbours still come with cookies lol – I bought a banana load for tonight as well 🙂
Are people still sending cookies this week? Usually in the last week it quiets down. Although you get those neighbours who send until the last night. Hmmm. haven’t had burgers this Ramadaan yet. Will get my mom to make tomorrow.
yep! Well at least my neighbours are!
Note to self….do not read this blog whilst fasting, save it for after Iftar lol. Enjoying your blog since I discovered it over the weekend. Those roti’s look divine!
They certainly were great. My mom has skill when it comes to traditional Cape Malay food. I have learned and continue to learn so much from her. Thanks for reading.
